Our take

For what would be his final film, Joseph L. Mankiewicz (All About Eve) has the tremendous Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine face off in this engaging and engrossing cat-and-mouse mystery. An intelligently, tightly-plotted thriller and a true classic of the genre, full of twists and turns.
