Unknown Regisserad av Jaume Collet-Serra

The plot, which evolves into exotic cloak-and-dagger skullduggery, is built on a commonplace anxiety of the middle-aged male – replaced by his wife and watching her from afar, Neeson’s character is as one fitted with the horns of a cuckold. (You might say that the “This is not my beautiful wife” twist in Unknown does for male anxiety about divorce what Joseph H. Lewis’s 1945 memory-lapse thriller My Name Is Julia Ross did for female anxiety around marriage.)

Blue is prevalent during multiple instances where reflections and bodies are juxtaposed, giving moments that should be kinetic a decomposing quality. During one fight sequence, when Martin and his opponent catch each other’s eyes in a broken mirror the two pause slightly before continuing their mortal embrace. Even more experimental, the swooshing composition of Martin’s body seen through windows of a passing train exhibits Collet-Serra’s love for cold, dynamic imagery.

Please, please, please, don't take away my memory and my ability to process complex thought. Dementia: away you go. I can withstand it all, just not not knowing who i am, where i've been, where i want to go. To strip Neeson of it all was oh so hurtful to see. Collet-Serra has a great flair for pacing - must be said.

  • Ana Sousa's rating of the film Unknown

I can surely say that Liam Neeson and Keanu Reeves have reached the same level on "tough-fragile" most badass characters on the big screen. Neeson almost made me cry with his puppy eyes. And "almost" because of his immediate expression of "I'm gonna smash your face and the ones of everyone you love". But... January Jones? If this was made in 2018 they'd rather just straight-up use a robot for her character.

  • Terry_Moby's rating of the film Unknown

Entertaining, mostly. The story is one third Philip K. Dick and two thirds Hitchcock. Both masters are certainly superior to this, but solid acting and the cold, gritty looking Berlin as location make this worthwhile.

  • spiderliliez's rating of the film Unknown

“Unknown” would have ticked me off because of all the clichés of an action movie, thus the presence of Liam Neeson beating the bad guys. In reality, I enjoyed this so much because I am a big fan. Though not very original, the plot wasn’t bad, and it’s pretty entertaining. Plus Diane Kruger's nifty Bosnian accent, was oddly bewitching.

  • Colin Landon's rating of the film Unknown

This movie was marketed as and had everyone thinking that it was going be the next Taken, where Liam Neeson kills everyone Europe. But this one has more twists and turns to the plot. However like Taken, Europe is portrayed as a place where one is vulnerable, because of language barriers and unfamiliarity, to theft of their own person and the only way to get it back is to use American determination and force. Pass.

mix up plots and settings of FRANTIC and NORTH by NORTHWEST with aesthetics and characters of TAKEN and you've got UNKNOWN>no wonder neeson doesn't know who he is! "am i in TAKEN or am i on UNKNOWN?!">it seems lyam is an action star nowadays and it suits him well enough>bruno ganz could spinoff on a BOYS FROM BRAZIL reimagining, seriously>january jones is pretty but dry as a bone here, as she's everywhere else>rent

  • asleep's rating of the film Unknown

well, at least it keeps you inside the cinema salon, to see what will happen in the end. however, i miss bruno ganz in movies like der himmel über berlin.

  • Swamp Leech's rating of the film Unknown

Quite silly, it clearly rips off the Bourne films, but lacks their brilliant editing and camerawork. Liam Neeson is always good, and can make even the cheesiest dialogue work, but I do wonder why he doesn't put his talent to better use. The film is reasonably enjoyable, despite its cliches and flaws, but the ending twist doesn't convince.
