“There are five different types of 'you' in Japanese: like polite, casual etc etc. So, I read just my lines, and I select which type of 'you' feels most natural for the character. By doing this, I can see what kind of language fits the character best. I do that and go back and read the whole script again with the appropriate language and kind of get a better feel of my character from there.”
