Quentin Dupieux is one of the most original directors living today. I'm sure that one day, he'll make a masterpiece that makes all other movies look outdated. This is not that movie, but it's ridiculously funny.

When it comes to sheer zaniness, Quentin Dupieux makes Michel Gondry look like an austere version of Michael Haneke. Unreliable narrators, doctored flashbacks, twists and roundabouts, meta-narratives gone bonkers and post-ironic tropes, you name it, the Q deploys them. This is the cinema of pataphysics, a solution to a non existent problem. Keep an eye out on Dupieux.

Short and sweet, a well executed comedy that does some very pleasant play with form.

Cinema of the absurd, or if you allow, “cinema dupieuse”. I think “Au Poste” is Dupieux’s best film to date. Again we’re moving somewhere in metafiction and metastorytelling, but it’d be exaggerating to claim that there’s some deep insightful view on our postmodern world behind it. But it’s funny, inventive, stylish, self-confident. The end, though, the end... oh well, it is difficult to make good endings for films.

2.5. I'm always willing to meet fun halfway, and Dupieux's dopily tossed off, half-eaten candy bar of sleepwalking slapstick is at least half fun more than half the time. But Dupieux, with nowhere to go, out of ideas and alternatives to ideas, attempts, in desperation or just to take more piss, a last-act maneuver akin to tearing a mask off The Naked Gun to reveal its Discreet Charm. Ceci n'est pas un chien andalou.

I think I tasted a little 'Birdman' there, though nowhere near as pretentious. It builds the tension and absurdity quite well. It's quite funny. To round things out, you get a little 'Wizard of Oz' for dessert. Ok, now I'm hungry.
