Cinema of the absurd, or if you allow, “cinema dupieuse”. I think “Au Poste” is Dupieux’s best film to date. Again we’re moving somewhere in metafiction and metastorytelling, but it’d be exaggerating to claim that there’s some deep insightful view on our postmodern world behind it. But it’s funny, inventive, stylish, self-confident. The end, though, the end... oh well, it is difficult to make good endings for films.
