Hervé Dumont persuasively argues that the first half of this gem is quintessentially Lubitschian before the Borzagean drift takes over; one might add that the point at which the two directorial styles fuse most triumphantly is the delightful morning-after sequence in which night-before sex between the two leads is firmly established.
