LEMONADE

Mara, a Romanian nurse, got married to Daniel whilst on a working visit to the USA. She recently moved there with her son Dragos and she waits for her Green Card. However, the naturalisation process is proving to be difficult and Mara begins to realise that America is not the way she imagined it.

The hopes of the American dream are shattered over the course of a long, tortuous day in Lemonade, the enthralling debut by Romanian writer-director Ioana Uricaru. This bleak journey of a woman and her son through the U.S. immigration system is carried by astute dialogue and intricate filmmaking.
