Eleştirmen yorumları

The possibility of finding or creating any recognizable sort of social reality in Roxbury or Harlem in the 40s, apart from images in other bad movies, seems not only beyond Lee’s range but beyond his comprehension or interest… Fortunately, the movie gets much better once its hero lands in prison, and ideas and rhetoric — most of it supplied by the Autobiography — fill in some of the various cavities in the screen left by the period, settings, and characters.

  • Duncan Gray's rating of the film Malcolm X

Spike is more dialectical than he gets credit for: his public persona may be an obstinate provocateur, but his best work simply asks you to understand people's choices in the face of problems without easy answers. Hence why I, a white man who doesn't consider himself a devil, can feel edified by passages of "white devil" rhetoric. And why the main constant trait of the film's pilgrim is his passion.

  • Ethan's rating of the film Malcolm X

This is a true American classic. Denzel Washington gives the performance of his career as this larger than life man who was a true hero to his people. This is an important film that should be required viewing in all history classes. Spike Lee crafts a brilliant epic that is up there with the greats and could possibly be his best film.

Tell Jesus to kiss my ass.

  • Den-Leroy Kangalee's rating of the film Malcolm X

Purely for Denzel's performance! Spike Lee doesn't have the fervor or spirituality or integrity to have made a true "Malcolm X" movie...If he'd had the spiritual commitment of a Bresson - perhaps. Could you imagine? Bresson and Denzel? THAT would have been something. Or maybe if Spike had used the original screenplay by James Baldwin...

  • lbunuel's rating of the film Malcolm X

If there's a genre I find boring, it's the biopic - especially when the protagonist is faced with utter reverence and endorsement. Well, as far as these films go, Malcolm X is certainly much superior to all its peers. The "official" nature of the subject matter is forgivable because of Lee's impressionistic use of colour and sound - an auteuristic trait that he has developed masterfully over the years.

  • sabrina's rating of the film Malcolm X

Not only does this film portray the internal antagonisms within Nation of Islam under Elijah Mohammad, but also the internal antagonisms within Malcolm X. His thoughts and actions mirror Baldwin's discussion in "The Fire Next Time," thus having read Baldwin before watching this film contextualized the political, religious and personal tensions of the era. In addition, Denzel's performance was also i n c r e dible.

  • Tibulle85's rating of the film Malcolm X

  • MGeo's rating of the film Malcolm X

It is hard for biopics to rise above their reputation as Oscar bait and there are few which feel genuine and memorable (Ed Wood/Man on the Moon being examples); this is one of them. I wouldn't call it Spike Lee's masterpiece (see Do the Right Thing), but it is his second best film. Washington completely transforms into Malcolm X. Beautiful camerawork and storytelling make this an epic in every sense of the word.
