Two hour long reanimation of Eddie Murphy's career. Patient dies nonetheless. Along with it, so does any attempt for more than just a simplified drama about whatever they found useful to write into a dramatic screenplay, and narrate its way towards an audience prone to believe over-stating someones last name is character development.
Nothing at all new or surprising here, just a well-intentioned, pleasant little thing with a remarkably subdued Eddie Murphy as the title character. Sentiment's poured on overly thick and the overuse of voiceover's as irritating as it always is outside of Bresson's films, but hey, enjoyable enough and not stupid, and that's pretty much the most I hope for from current American movies.
