It's a pity than Laughton, barring two minutes, never worked with Lubitsch. This is a loss for cinema, because he was tailormade for him and Lubitsch was in Paramount. To bring awkwardness on screen without resorting to generic frantic gestures, only Laughton can. Also, a stellar use of voice to convey cultural differences, both in exaggeration and subtlety. Ruggles and Laughton are such a wonderful pair to watch.
