Those hoping for a Frost/Nixon situation will be disappointed but for everyone else, this sheds light on the other side of the story that you don't hear on CNN and MSNBC. Should we advocate for Putin? No. However, the attempts to escalate a second draft of Cold War fuelled by US peddling of Russiagate exacerbates geopolitical progress. Stone's neutral interviewing approach is important in this case.
Stone does little more than provide Putin with a platform from which he delivers deliciously inventive revisionist histories. At times it seems as if Putin himself cannot believe Stone is nodding along and swallowing it all. Putin proves once more to be the real master of драматургия. It would, no doubt, be more illuminating and enetertaining in every respect to watch a film of Putin's own making.
This fascinating docu-series is an extremely humanizing portrait of Vladimir Putin. Throughout a series of intimate interviews, bits and pieces of his worldview are revealed as well as his take on geopolitics. But, ultimately, there is just too much information that we as viewers are not privy to. Snowden showed that American politics are beyond corrupt. The question is, is Putin more or less corrupt?
