Camilo Restrepo's New Cinematic Histories

MUBI Special

The Colombia-born, France-based filmmaker Camilo Restrepo is one of the most exciting voices in cinema, telling stories of his home country as well as that of Réunion Island and Guinea with bold formal invention and enthralling textures of image and sound. In this double feature, MUBI presents his Silver Leopard winner of the Locarno Festival, Impression of a War (2015), alongside his newest work, the intoxicating musical short, La Bouche (2017).

La Bouche

Camilo Restrepo Fransa, 2017

Süresi Dolmuş

Premiering at this year’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, we are thrilled to present the latest from Camilo Restrepo. Forming a post-colonial diptych with Restrepo’s previous short Cilaos (shown October, 2016 on MUBI), La Bouche is a loudly voiced, expertly crafted whirlwind of sound and rhythm.

Impression of a War

Camilo Restrepo Kolombiya, 2015

Süresi Dolmuş

This week’s double feature is devoted to the Colombia-born, France-based Camilo Restrepo, whose micro-musical Cilaos we showed last year. Winner of Locarno’s Silver Leopard, this kaleidoscopic documentary entwines footage of different natures to question the process by which history is constructed.
