“I think the Bond films were always fantasy films and the Bourne films are action fantasy. Whereas what we were attempting was something entirely different. Le Carre says you judge the culture of the country by its secret service. His book was an examination that became an elegy for a Britain that no longer existed. I think what we were telling was a story of personal loyalty to one’s comrades and country. I mean, I'd be very happy to make a Bond film. But Bond has no morals except for fun. I think le Carre is a great moralist. He has a profound morale sense.”
