Wim Wenders Bundesrepublik Deutschland, 1976

Matthew Martens's rating of the film Im Lauf der Zeit

Revised from the five stars I'd given it based on a cherished, threadbare memory of a viewing twenty-five years ago. It's plain to me now that this last installment is by far the weakest of Wenders' mid-70s "road trilogy," primarily due, I think, to Wenders' sole responsibility for the script, an ungainly, self-conscious synthesis of gravitas and cool. Still, a net positive for its comedy and landscape of exhaustion.
