Duncan Gray's rating of the film The Old Man and the Gun

Lowery's last movie was about the meaning of life, this one is about saying goodbye to Robert Redford, and both have a similar sense of wistfulness. A bittersweet charmer with humble ambitions—I wish it were funnier, or had a greater sense of loss, or in general was more intense on any axis it explores. But the fondness for 70s Hollywood is lovely; it takes a special kind of nostalgist to stunt-cast Keith Carradine.
