Gypsy dancer Cartacalha is elected queen of the gypsies. She loves horse breeder Galejon, but following misunderstandings and perfidies, she leaves for Paris, invited by a playwright who predicts total success for her on stage. Having become a star, she returns to Camargue and she attempts suicide.
