João Barbela’s a pauper who lives out of charity: coins some people give him as ‘pay’ for his puppeteering.For the kids, he’s like a king, (Dom Roberto=puppet). He meets Maria; he fancies changing her life, get her a house, marry her & maybe being happy together. Life gives no happy endings though.
