Synopsis

Oray, a young Muslim, pronounces the Islamic term for separation, ‘talaq’, during an argument with his wife. The imam informs him of the consequences: Oray must now part from Burcu for three months.

Our take

A quietly shattering debut, Oray chronicles a young man’s struggle to reconcile faith, love, and identity after a religious utterance irrevocably alters his life. With understated intensity, director Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay captures the emotional weight of belief and belonging in diaspora.
