Synopsis

The Belgian woman Amelie returns to Japan after having spent her childhood there. She is hired as an interpreter at a large Japanese corporation, however, a series of humiliating experiences soon rapidly turn her dream job into a nightmare, as western and eastern values start to clash.

Our take

From French director Alain Corneau, Fear and Trembling is a critically acclaimed, darkly funny, and winningly perverse comedy about a twisted workplace hell. And in a just world, Sylvie Testud, who won Best Actress at the Césars and the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, would be much better known.
