Synopsis

Nineteen-year-old Giacomo, newly regaining his hearing, heads to the river with his sixteen-year-old friend Stefania. As they wander the sunlit woods of northeastern Italy, they lose their way and drift into an afternoon that stretches like the whole summer.

Our take

Two idling teens lead a biddable camera off the beaten track in this sun-dimpled docufiction, which winds back the clock to a simpler time. Ushering in a new naturalism, director Alessandro Comodin undresses cinema to its bare essence, reveling in its raw materials: movement, play, presence, light.
