Synopsis

In Winnipeg, Nazgol and Negin try to help a classmate recover an Iranian banknote. At the same time, a character named Matthew Rankin quits his job in Montreal to be closer to his family in Winnipeg, where he meets Massoud, a tour guide who also takes care of Rankin’s mother.

Our take

The feathery melodies of the santoor and a snow shoveler’s cries fill the chill air in this sportively cinephilic film that winks at the cinema of Abbas Kiarostami. In a portmanteau Manitoba, tea served the Persian way and a florist’s trough of crocuses warm a brutalist Winnipeg ramparted with snow.
