The coming together and moving apart of two grown sisters is a danse macabre in Lithuanian director Laurynas Bareiša’s lovingly choreographed second film. An exploration of spreading grief and the distortions it performs on time and memory, this poignant family portrait sifts the past for answers.

Violence is in the soil in Laurynas Bareiša’s bold debut, which rakes through the scenes of a crime by knifelike natural light. Digging into the inaction of those who saw and walked on, this penetrating procedural drama explores how one person’s minding their own business is another’s world of pain.
