“I wanted ['The Night'] to be an Iranian film and about the Iranian couple who lives here, and also a film that can be shown in Iran for my own people. They have to feel this authenticity as well. So that was a key factor for me, and I knew it would make it a foreign film, but I think staying with the truth and the reality of the situation was way more important than anything else.”
