“In Poland, we used to collaborate very closely with the director starting from the script stage. As a cinematographer, you were obliged to work on the script. And automatically this collaboration [Gattaca] resulted, not only in the shooting script but quite often in a new version of the script. So it’s absolutely impossible to do such a thing in the studio system.”
