[After returning to New York after changing her name to Veruschka]: “I dressed all in black and went to see all the top photographers, like Irving Penn, and said, ‘I am Veruschka who comes from the border between Russia, Germany and Poland. I’d like to see what you can do with my face.”

DORIAN GRAY IN THE MIRROR OF THE YELLOW PRESS

    ULRIKE OTTINGER West Germany, 1984

Rejecting sanctimonious satire, Ulrike Ottinger’s bold critique of the tabloid press allows for the surface pleasures of notoriety and celebrity. Starring an immaculate, never-more-devious Delphine Seyrig, this prescient film is magnetized with push-pull fascination for sparkly yet throwaway fun.
