Synopsis

Stéphane, an out-of-work actor, joins his old troupe for a final performance at the Avignon Theatre Festival. There, he meets Fanny, a former intern now starring in a Victor Hugo play. To impress her, he falsely claims to be playing the lead in Pierre Corneille’s Le Cid, Fanny’s favorite play.

Our take

Sex, lies, and amateur theater make for a heady mix in this quick-tongued comedy from Johann Dionnet. Nodding to such classic French romances as Dangerous Liaisons and Cyrano de Bergerac, Avignon sets the midsummer scene for love and revelation in the medieval city that gives the film its name.
