In Breillat’s version of the tale, some of the most dramatic parts of the story . . . are not shown. This is in an attempt to not show the fear of the young girl, and also to not show her being helped in her conquest by men. These are all story-telling decisions that threaten to weaken the impact of the drama, while at the same time strengthening Breillat’s feminist agenda.
