Set in a country often affected by violence against the transgender community, Donoso’s Casa Roshell [offers] an important social commentary and is a candid, inspiring and insightful exploration of how different things could be if the outside world looked at masculinity and femininity in a new light.

The merits of Casa Roshell... [lie in Donoso's] successful direction of the actresses (besides being very Almodovarian, and far from the temperament of a Divine, for example), her creation of the atmosphere radiating from this tranquil arcadia of freedom, and an imaginary trans world conjured from sequins, shines, boleros, colorful drinks, and wigs.
