Combining the in-your-face maximalism of director Atlee, and the come-get-me grizzled slit-eyed sexiness of star Shah Rukh Khan, Jawan is a pop-masala banger... Fashioned as an unabashed massy entertainer, Jawan slips in strong political messaging at every opportunity, making it a film which is very much of the moment.

Jawan isn’t a morally challenging or ambiguous film like Fan or Baazigar, but it still stretches the limits of its superstar’s repertoire. Benign, upstanding, ideal citizen Khan — check. Grizzled, cigar-chomping, Wolverine-recalling Khan — also check.
