[Killer Heat] plays like a mirage of detective noirs you’ve seen before... Lacôte does an okay job of unfurling the story, yet somehow it all lacks…heat. Maybe that’s because he wants the dots he’s connecting to be sentimental.

Despite the occasional very slightly novel element, [Killer Heat] is nevertheless firmly on the “utterly generic” side of the spectrum, so much so that its very premise, once described, basically gives away the entire mystery, leaving the details of mood, performance, and direction to carry the picture. They don’t.

The twists and pedestrian dramatics are a stiff slog to get to, and Gordon-Levitt’s once innate charisma has vanished altogether here; his cheap P.I. outfit itself seems to be wearing him more than the other way around.

A dull and predictable sunshine noir that wastes the time of those involved as well as ours... [Killer Heat] is as drably made, horribly lit and creatively uninspired as streaming films come, made more distracting by characters insisting on a luxury we never get to see
