THE ARRANGEMENT

Elia Kazan United States, 1969
The film doesn't criticize or subvert its plush settings so much as it's overwhelmed by them. Where was Haskell Wexler when Kazan needed him… again? More to the point, even a genius like Brando needed scenes he could play, and the fragmented style obliterates any dramatic build—the bulk of the movie is pitched on the feverish level of a family quarrel.
