...La Cava applies the song like a series of piercingly bright brushstrokes on a cinematic canvas of surprisingly panoramic breadth, ranging from Ohio to New York, from dreamy romance to mere sex to something like love, from tenements to penthouses. But he doesn't offer only contrasts—he finds the agony within the uproarious, the painfully intimate within the brassily public. He's an original, powerful director, and "Unfinished Business" is one of his masterworks, and a rare one.
