Sohrab Shahid Saless West Germany, 1983
Instead of indulging in the man's perspective, Shahid Saless pointedly emphasizes just this woman's face, the face of another woman dehumanized by a society in which everything—sex, freedom, a chance at a career—is reducible to a commodity. It's an enormous event in an enormous film, the point where we feel Shahid Saless' true subject begin to uncoil beneath the austere surface.
