Our take

Nominated for eight Oscars®, Chloé Zhao’s powerfully spiritual drama is earthed by a fathoms-deep performance from Jessie Buckley. Ploughing up the mysteries of creativity and the metaphysics of loss, this twinned history—of a play and a relationship—gives raw and cathartic expression to love.
