My favourite Russian films (ranked)

The list excludes works of Russian directors of films primarily in another language (e.g,, Eisenstein’s Que Viva Mexico; Tarkovsky’s Sacrifice, Tengiz Abuladze’s Repentance, Mikhlakov’s Dark Eyes). Paradjanov’s films, originally listed here, were not in Russian but in Armenian and in Ukranian languages and have been removed. (Unable to add Naum Trachtenberg’s “Vystrel” made in 1967 (a.k.a. “Shot” made in 1966) and Ivan Solovov’s “Otets” (2007) as MUBI has not included it)
