There was a point in time where Bresson said that the Passion of Joan of Arc could service cinematograph; but later down the road criticized how the movie prioritized spectacle of emotion over truth. Stan Brakhage said in a lecture that alot of people “accused” Bresson of being a disciple of Dryer and according to Stan at that point he hadn’t seen a single Dryer picture.
