IN TIERS, EACH IN YEAR ORDER, WITH A STARTING PACK. A selection of notable, popular and landmark British films with some personal taste involved too. I’m not including Peter Watkins’ excellent Edvard Munch, which is Scandinavian, or Hitchcock’s Rebecca, but I am including The Great Escape, Alien, Blow Up, Dr Strangelove, 2001, and Nic Roeg’s Walkabout, in Australia, which is a mixed nationality production starring Jenny Agutter. The Shining simply feels too American.
