Synopsis

Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the miners. But there’s a problem—the Union seems embarrassed to receive their support.

Our take

The unlikely alliance of a young LGBTQ+ community and small-town miners results in this witty and light-hearted political comedy. Based on a true Thatcher-era story, British director Matthew Warchus’s optimistic film conveys the high-spirited feeling of being united in a common cause.
