WHAT IS NOTEBOOK?
Notebook is MUBI’s daily international film publication. Our mission is to guide film lovers searching, lost or adrift in an overwhelming sea of content. We offer text, images, sounds and video as critical maps, passageways and illuminations to the worlds of contemporary and classic film.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for writers who have a unique voice and perspective on moving image culture. We publish features, interviews, and criticism that cover the contemporary film world in its many diverse forms, including new movies, film festivals, and retrospectives.
HOW DO I PITCH?
Send your proposed writing topic, along with writing samples to:
. Please do not submit finished pieces; our team is small and only greenlights articles based on pitches.
WHAT SHOULD I TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION?
- Have we published on this topic or a similar one before?
- Why is this topic relevant now? What is your angle on this topic?
- Why is this topic a good fit for you as an author?
- Why is this topic a good fit for Notebook specifically?
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR WRITING ABOUT FILMS PLAYING ON MUBI?
We are not looking for pitches related to MUBI programming. Coverage of MUBI programming on Notebook is based on a combination of commissions and a roster of regular contributors.
CAN I GET A FESTIVAL PRESS ACCREDITATION FROM YOU?
Unfortunately we cannot offer festival accreditations. We do, however, accept and encourage pitches on subjects sourced from or related to film festivals.
DO YOU COMPENSATE AUTHORS?
Yes! All authors of published pieces are compensated.
WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK?
We plan our publishing schedule 1-2 months in advance. Please keep this in mind when proposing topics. Pitches are only read twice a month, around the 1st and the 15th of each month—we ask for your patience in waiting for a response.
