Synopsis

Aysel, a young woman from the Turkish countryside, is taken advantage of by the man who employs her. After he leaves her pregnant and alone, her reputation is torn apart in her village. Refusing to yield, Aysel takes him to court, finding unexpected support in Ali.

Our take

Adapted from a Selma Lagerlöf story by revolutionary Turkish poet Nâzım Hikmet, this landmark village drama confronts power, desire, and public shame with striking clarity. Cahide Sonku dazzles in a film that unsettles the terms of justice and belonging—presented here in its restored version.
