From the early 1920s, lit by a projector, wearing a black dress, the French singer Damia enjoyed immense success for three decades. Born Louise Marie Damien (1889-1978) initially worked as a model, stage actress, dancer as Marise Damia, and finally encouraged to sing by impresario Robert Hollard.
