Our take
Director G.W. Pabst and star Louise Brooks, who had just climbed to delirious heights with Pandora’s Box, re-teamed for this 1929 classic, which offers a stunning tale of an innocent woman whose effect on men becomes her curse. A forward-thinking masterwork, its reputation has only risen with time.
