Lyda, a former prostitute, escapes from the workhouse. She is found by a kindly old count, whom she tells her story, and who is moved to find her a good job. When Lyda’s past threatens to be exposed, the count adopts her. But Lyda can’t rest easy until she’s found the child she once had to give up.
