Synopsis

After a long day at work, 58-year-old Khadija falls asleep on the metro late at night. When she wakes up at the end stop, she has no choice but to continue her way home on foot. This nocturnal journey forces her to ask for and give help to the other residents of the night.

Our take

A simple conceit yields magical results in Flemish filmmaker Bas Devos’ revelatory and humanist Ghost Tropic. Beautifully shot on 16mm on the nocturnal streets of Brussels, the film builds a rich tapestry of immigrant life, subtly interrogating the social issues of all urban cities.
