A surreal “rebellion of the objects”: doors opening and closing by themselves, hats travelling through landscapes without a wearer, revolvers multiplying and threatening people are just a few of the objects which develop a life of their own, populating a cheerful dream world.
Hans Richter’s Dadaist animated short film is one of the classics of the avant-garde, delighting through its quick-paced rhythmic editing as ordinary objects rebel against their typical use. The Nazis attempted to destroy the film, resulting in the disappearance of its original score.
