Synopsis

The year is 2067 and Milana tells us what happened to her decades ago in 2009. A pupil in a primary school in Paris and originally from Chechnya, Milana is threatened with deportation. Her friends swear to do all they can to stay together.

Our take

Political activist and filmmaker Romain Goupil (To Die at 30) directed this tender allegory of youthful camaraderie and the treatment of illegal immigrants in contemporary France. Utilizing a spectacular cast of children, Hands Up is a humble and unsentimental story that moves beyond the didactic.
