Synopsis

In 2011, artist Laurie Anderson’s beloved rat terrier Lolabelle died. By weaving together her thoughts on Tibetan Buddhism, reincarnation, the modern surveillance state, and the artistic lives of dogs, Anderson reflects on the deaths of her husband Lou Reed, her mother, and her cherished dog.

Our take

Ruminations on memory, mortality, and vision intertwine in Heart of a Dog, as Laurie Anderson turns her hand to the essay film. Venturing to a space between life and death to commune with lost ones, the singular, shape-shifting artist dedicates this wonderful work to her husband, the late Lou Reed.
