Synopsis

In Northern Ireland’s Maze prison in 1981, 27-year-old Irish Republican Army member Bobby Sands is imprisoned with fellow IRA inmates. Demanding to be recognized as political prisoners, ‘dirty protests’ progress to hunger strikes. Soon, Sands’ body and mind are pushed to the uttermost limit.

Our take

Before 12 Years a Slave won the Best Picture Oscar® and Small Axe stole everyone’s hearts, Steve McQueen turned out this intense, brutal, and shattering tale of defiance. Carried by a breakout performance from Michael Fassbender, Hunger was awarded the Camera d’Or at Cannes. A blistering debut.
