Synopsis

In the small mountain community of Kannogawa, Japan, the laws of nature reshape the human blueprint of what used to be a lively town. While the younger generations have gone to the cities, the remainders perform everyday activities with a brave perspective on their history and the cycles of life.

Our take

Soaked in the gentle soundscape of babbling brooks and rustling leaves, the serene beauty of a Japanese village also carries a tinge of uncertainty in Pedro González-Rubio’s wistful documentary. In a land where time has stood still, the fear of aging and being left behind by the modern age lingers.
