Islamic State – official name since June 2014, IS – a.k.a the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant ISIL, and as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS, or by its Arabic acronym, Daesh is a militant Sunni Islamist group and former unrecognized quasi-state that follows a Salafi jihadist doctrine.
